Circle Patterns

Hi there! Today I have a fun project to share with you that was inspired by a painting I saw on Instagram. The artist’s name is Angela Johal and below is her glorious acrylic masterpiece.

I wanted to try and adapt this onto a card. Wasn’t sure if it was possible, but I was going to try. I used 12 different shades of solid colored cardstock along with the Nested Circle dies to create the rings.

SSS-Nested Circle Dies, CZ Love You

For the sentiment I used the CZ Love You dies. If you look closely you can see that some of the rings…well, almost all of the rings are not matching up precisely. This bothers me to no end:) I don’t think I’ll be able to rest until I can get this idea with a cleaner result, but I am loving where this is headed.

Here’s a video to show you how I created this card.

That’s all for today! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Amazing card (the painting’s pretty cool too)! And I would TOTALLY buy a die set, designed by you, that made this card. Seriously, you should do it!!!

Great geometric card! Love this. What about a circle frame die like MFT single stitched line circle frames or similar?

Love your take on this cool painting. Great idea. I can see how you’d gnash your teeth a bit at them not lining up, but until you mention it, it doesn’t really stand out. You do great layouts. Hope you show us more variations on this.

What a fun, colorful card. I love geometric designs. Don’t know if I have the patience (or math skills!) to do it, but I printed the image and took notes so I could give it a try.

Awesome card Laura. I love the design and I thought when I saw the mailing (before I read it) that your inspiration came from a quilt. Gorgeous painting as well. Thanks for sharing and have a great week.

I love the circle geometric card! Wish you’d make the die set so they’d come out the same each time! I support you!

Absolutely love this, Laura – imperfections and all. Would love to CASE it, but just know I’d be there for hours trying to decide on which colors to place where. Maybe on a day I’m up for some crafty masochism. LOL. In any case, you outdid yourself with this beauty.

LOVE this card! I made it after I saw it on another one of your videos (the one with layered squares). So after I made the one with layered squares that are cut in half and then made a card with layered squares cut into quarters like you mentioned that you wanted to do also. I decided I NEEDED to make the circle & square card. I obviously could not get enough! lol Anyway, (if you’re still with me) I hadn’t seen this video and so I came up with my own technique and it worked pretty darn well. I cut each small square out with a die, grouped 4 of the same color squares on a tacky piece of paper then glued the circle on. then I picked the four squares up off the tacky paper and cut them apart (all that needed cutting was the circle that was holding them together). My circles were not popped up with foam tape cuz I hadn’t realized that’s what you had done. It still looks awesome. I do think my favorite is the layered squares cut into quarters. Thanks for all the great inspiration!!

I recently discovered Cathy Z and she highly recommended you which is how I found your blog. As I watched your video I began to wonder if I was being punked! You two sound so alike it is amazing! Your cadence is practically identical! I can see why you are friends, you have a similar sense of humour and I love it! The card is awesome! Remember, “ it’s homemade, not Hallmark “.
